No Frills Country

No Frills Country

No Frills Country EP is a little piece of Americana, consisting of three stripped back, simple recordings of mine, including “No Frills Country”.

Rough And Ready is a new version of my old song, it’s all about listening to Bluegrass music at an early age and getting fired up by the sound of it!

Steel Driving Wheels; again, another new version of an old song of mine. Taking a slow train journey and reflecting on old times and new times along the way.

Highway Trail is written as a theme to a Western movie “Riding The Highway Trail”.

Jump that fence

Hi everyone

Here is a western / swing / country / blues song of mine. It’s out there and available as a single download.

Lyrics are on the songs page.

It sums up the term “AMERICANA” for me because there was this kid ( me ) living the dream, the cowboy dream. I took on board the romance of the old wild west scene with all it’s characters, sights and sounds and it really didn’t bother me that it was coming from the other side of the world. it fed my imagination and I ate it up.

In those day there was no social media but there was film, television, radio, comics and annuals that portrayed the image pretty well.

Countless kids, like me at that time got into this fantasy and there must be many still out there who know what I’m talking about.

Sure good to relive that moment in a song!

The Santa Fe’

The Santa Fe’

The Santa Fe’ is a club, a fictional, imaginary club, a dancing, Country & Western, old style, out in the desert somewhere, king of club, used for meeting and greeting.

I read a book about the life and times of Bob Wills and The Texas Cowboys, it got me thinking, wrote this song.

But it could be a real place for all I know.

“Phoebe” – a love story

“Phoebe” – a love story

The Country song “Phoebe” came about from the bringing together of a poem and a tune.

Dave Pearce, a Country music lover from Wiltshire, UK contacted me recently about using the lyric from his poem that he had written about his late wife Phoebe and sing it as a Country song.

I had a couple of melodies at that time so I put one of them with Dave’s lyric and they seemed to fit perfectly.

We met at Pete Lamb’s studio in Potterne, Wilts and recorded with vocal and acoustic guitar. Then added bass and lead guitar (care of Pete) and a little pedal steel (Micky Wareham).

At the same session we made another recording, I used the other melody I had with Dave’s other poem about his older brother Mike, who was taken to the U. S. A. as a boy.

Another story, another song.

Saddlebag of Birdsong

Saddlebag of Birdsong

This is an album of my latest Country songs, written and recorded just for the love of it.

Country music is a lot of different things to a lot of different people, but to me it’s a vehicle to drive home a feeling in a song and that’s good enough.
